ABOUT me

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been enchanted by design. From the very moment I read my first home design magazine, flipping through it and lingering over each page with wonder and awe, I’ve been a raging “deco-holic.”

I was addicted. And still am.

My path to becoming “The Design Raven," my nom de plume (“pen name” if like me, you don’t speak French) was paved with passion. Always the writer, I obtained my degree in journalism, and ever the design enthusiast, I got my second degree in residential design. A successful career as a writer and editor specializing in interior design, architecture, art, real estate, luxury lifestyle, and travel has enabled me to merge the two pursuits.

Through the years, I’ve had the privilege of covering some of the world’s most visionary design talents.  And when a designer friend affectionately dubbed me “the raven-haired one," I did some research and quickly realized I had more in common with this amazing bird than my jet-black hair. (more on that below)

Dream homes and architectural masterpieces. Thrilling furniture and accessory collections. Textural wallcoverings that long to be touched. Fabrics so luscious you want to wrap yourself up in them. Lighting that dazzles. Exotic stones sourced from hidden quarries, and natural woods discovered in faraway forests. Whether trending or timeless, I love it all. And if you’re reading this, I'm guessing you do too.

So, please join me as I spread my wings, soaring from coast-to-coast and across oceans to bring breaking industry news, expert advice, coveted objects, and inspiring ideas directly to your device.

I consider the raven my spirit animal.

Corvus Corax is the Latin name for the common raven, but there’s nothing "common" about this species of bird. Unlike the ominous character Edgar Allen Poe so masterfully etched onto our collective psyche, the raven is actually quite sociable. These songbirds are noted for their vocalizations and are excellent communicators. Ancient cultures relied upon them to gather and disperse information.  If you are like the raven, you are endlessly curious, and your soul is filled with creative energy.

When a raven totem has flown into your life, it signifies that magic is at play. Raven ignites the energy of magic, allowing it to become one with our intentions and will. Great changes can be achieved at this time, and dreams can become a reality. – Elena Harris
